What is blues dancing? Well dlues dancing in partnered dance communities today range from traditional african based movements to much less historically grounded forms. The dance is based on principles of partner connection, aesthetics and approaches to rhythm and timing. Major influences for modern day blues dancing have come mainly from lindy hop, west coast swing, and tango and majority of swing dance scenes around the world also have a blues dance community associated with it. Jazz was born from the blues.

New Pre-Registration Policy – Register for Fall 2010!
Toronto, please take note of our new Pre-Registration Policy:
Due to an overwhelming response for our Fall 2010 classes in Toronto, we have updated our Registration vs. Drop-in Policy.
New Pre-Registration Policy:
In order to guarantee your participation in a class you must now register in advance. Drop-in attendants may still be admitted on a space-permitting basis, but pre-registration is strongly recommended.
Pre-registrants must also be on-time; we cannot hold spots for late-comers so please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the class and be ready to join us on-time.
Please try to register at least 48 hours before the time of the class. We will do our best to process same-day registrations but we cannot guarantee your spot on short notice.
Thanks and we look forward to booking you for your next class!
Winter 2011 Advanced Training & Performance Troupe Announced!
This is an opportunity for a small group of dedicated dancers to participate in an Advanced Lindy Hop Performance Troupe. Unlike the Jazz Troupe (also running this Winter) which would give people the option to opt out of performing, this one is specifically for people who would like to work on their social dance technique AND are also interested in performing choreography. There are limited spots available so this is a rather exclusive opportunity. The troupe will meet on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7pm, just before the Jazz Troupe.
WHAT
Advanced Lindy Hop Social Dance, Training and Performance Troupe with a 3 month commitment. (January, February, March) We will train in Lindy Hop technique in a progressive way. This will include social dancing exercises as well as one to two complete performance numbers.
WHEN
Wednesdays, Wednesdays, January 5th to March 30th (13 weeks) from 6pm to 7pm
THE PLAN
This is a 13 week commitment and pre-registration and pre-payment is mandatory. If you miss a week, we can arrange a time to catch you up on anything that you miss. If you cannot pay in full at the beginning of the series, I can accept post-dated cheques in 2 or 3 installments. The price is $120 for 13 weeks. Because of the limited number of spots available for this group, I’m not able to offer a student rate.
To register, please select Winter Adv. Lindy Hop Troupe from the Registration form, listed under Special Workshops/Events/Troupes: http://www.beeskneesdance.com/registration/
*Please note that since this is a limited group, I will contact you to confirm your eligibility based on your experience and level of dedication. I look forward to discussing it with you!

Winter 2011 Jazz Troupe Announced!
Attention fans of Solo Vintage Jazz & Charleston!
WHAT
A troupe with a 3 month commitment (January, February, March) to work on Solo Vintage Jazz and Charleston steps in a progressive way. This will include working on short routines as well as complete numbers. The main point is that over 3 months we’ll be able to improve our dancing, rhythm, timing, repertoire, and that we can do so with a steady group of people who will grow together over 13 weeks. To be clear, there will be no obligation for participants in the troupe to perform. However, there will be performance opportunities for anyone who does have interest in performing.
*This opportunity is available for people of all dance levels.
WHEN
Wednesdays, January 5th to March 30th (13 weeks) from 7pm to 8pm
THE PLAN
This will be a 13 week commitment, but that doesn’t mean that you are stuck attending every single week. I know that life happens and if you miss a week that’s ok. However, I’m offering a very good price for this but ask that it be paid in advance for the entire session, not paid per week. Anyone who has financial trouble could commit in advance with post-dated cheques in 2 or 3 installments. The price will be $115 for or $100 for students for 13 weeks.
To register, please select Winter Jazz Troupe from the Registration form, listed under Special Workshops/Events/Troupes: http://www.beeskneesdance.com/registration/
Bees’ Knees 11 Year Anniversary & 50s Rock n’ Roll Party!
Save the date! On Friday, October 29th, please join us for this Bees’ Knees Dance & Swing Toronto co-production!
We’re celebrating our 11 year anniversary by turning back the clocks at the Dovercourt House. It’s time to party like it’s 1955!
From Chuck Berry to Elvis to Fats Domino to Bill Haley & The Comets to The Beach Boys, this class lets us step back to a simpler time; diners, drive-in movies, milk shakes, black and white television and loads of nostalgia.
Think American Graffiti, hot summer nights, poodle skirts, sock hops and TV dinners. It’s time to work it on out to some smoking hot dance tunes, so if you can relate to the Fonz in Happy Days and you wish it could have stayed 1955 forever then this is the class for you!
DRESS:
Come in 50s attire (admired but not required). For women skirts, dresses, poodle skirts, capri pants, turned up jeans… for boys, skinny ties and cuff links, bowling shirts, turned up jeans, jackets or cardigans…
Dance lessons at 7pm & 8pm.
805 Dovercourt Rd.
Near Ossington & Bloor
